Outboard Yamaha 5 BS (3/3) More

Next test on the boat and then the next problem, starting no problem, only after a short drive no gasoline and engine dies.
Disconnect engine and disassemble, this time remove the carburetor and look. The float chamber is completely dry when unscrewing, so no gasoline in the carburetor. Remove nozzles, these are clean. In the gasoline inlet, however, is a lot of dirt. The nozzle has a small rubber seal which is only 50% available. So clean everything, replace rubber seal, build everything together and test again on the boat.
Now the engine is running and also the fuel supply is working.
The last act is now the setting of carburetor and ignition. The breaker contact is set to 0.35 mm distance, the mixture screw screwed on the carburetor about 1 turn and reset the idle gas. Engine is running better and has more power.
We readjusted the settings on the carburetor a few times, even when the engine was running warm. So far, the engine is running well, and also starts pulling once.

After the winter break we returned to the problem again.
First, disconnect and disassemble the fuel pump, which is bolted to the engine and working with negative pressure, and look at the diaphragms. Diaphragms and gaskets as far as OK only parts of the protruding gasket have dissolved and are in the gasoline pump. Some paper seals are also broken. Clean the fuel pump and replace the paper gaskets and then reassemble everything.
New attempt to start but not start.
Now for the ignition system:
Initial tests showed no spark or only a weak one in the ignition system. So remove spark plug and look, unscrew ignition coil and measure by ignition coil. By measuring the ignition coil was ok with the values, primary side 0.5 ohms secondary 5 kilohms, including plug. Then put everything together again and test - and no spark.
Next, disconnect the STOP button. That did not change anything.
The next step was then look at the ignition system, so in the case the breaker contact. (The Yamaha 5 BS has one breaker contact and no transistor ignition.) Remove the wire throw, remove the flywheel, and then remove the entire ignition system. By measuring the coil by means of ohmmeter seems to be ok, check the breaker contact for continuity and determine that only when it is compressed will it still have continuity. Now first order a new breaker contact and immediately with the small capacitor (is intended to break the break contact breaker contact).
After the new breaker contact and the new capacitor arrived (35 EURO) reassemble everything. New bump test and now you can see a spark well.
Screw in the spark plugs and connect and test the fuel tank.
Well, engine starts.

History of the outboard Yamaha 5 BS
Last year we bought an older (ca 1975) used outboard Yamaha 5hp which should not be running.
First, we have installed a new spark plug and cleaned the carburetor. With these small repairs, the outboard first ran, albeit poorly to start and a bit out of round. In 2018 we used the outboard then some time until he finally failed at the end of the season his service. Some attempts to get him to work failed miserably.

From the beach at Cabo de Gata still have a beautiful sunset in the evening and the following morning then anchor and sail to Almerimar. With little wind we arrive in the late afternoon in Almerimar and go to the marina.

With little wind we start around 10 o'clock and today have to drive the first track, albeit small, under engine. The day after tomorrow the wind should be a bit more, we want to use that then to cross the bay of Almeria. At 0 sea state and 3 kt wind we drive around the Cabo de Gata and anchor relatively open in front of the beach for the night.

Aguilas - San Pedro More

After a long time in the area of Aguilas and Cartagena we drive south. Early in the morning we clear the anchor and drive off the bay. Somewhere outside there is a little wind and we can sail, albeit slowly first. After we passed the fish farm in front of Aguilas we set the gennaker and the speed increases noticeably. In the late afternoon we reach the bay of San Pedro and drop the anchor. The bay can only be reached by boat, or just on foot. In the bay live some hippies in caves or self-built houses. There are also two bars on the beach.

Aguilas fortress More

17.09.2018 Sonne 32°C 12 kt SE Actuell Position : 37° 24.25' N 001° 34.01' W
In the late afternoon, after the sun is not so high, we want to visit the fortress "Castillo de San Juan de las Aguilas". The opening hours are in the morning from 1000 to 1300 o'clock or in the afternoon from 1600 to 1800 o'clock. The fortress is a good 80 meters above sea level and offers a good view all around the sea and also over the town. In its present form, the fortress was built at the end of the 1700's and restored in recent years, which can also be seen. Admission is 2 EUR / p. Not quite fitting in the image of the fortress is the built of an iron scaffold elevator, which is clearly from recent years and does not fit the rest of the fortress. Just below the fortress is a well-frequented restaurant which offers a nice view of the bay of Anguilas.

Aguilas - Bahia Levante More

14.09.2018 Sonne 31°C 8 kt E Actuell Position : 37° 24.25' N 001° 34.01' W
Aguilas has two bays separated by the fort, actually three, the third further east and the ore loading facility. The western, Poniente, is much larger, but also open and with sandy beach and hotels. We are located in the eastern, Bahia Levante, and here is also the city port and the fishing port. In the west or southwest one lies on the western side, otherwise most in the eastern bay. The seabed is often sand with grass, only in the eastern part are some pure sand. In the western part it is because of the proximity to the port also restless, but you are close to the center. In most cases, the entire bay is safe in the summer months.
