We are in front of the Marina of Fuengirola. Since it is quiet we stay a day longer. When checking the machine there is water in the engine bilge, and it is seawater. We start the search for the water leak. The wave of the seawater pump is leaking and we do not know how much water is leaking from the pump. If we sail mostly, there should be no problem up to Almerimar. After an anchor day we drive under sail in the morning with destination Caleta de Veldez. In good wind, we arrive in the Navy in the early afternoon. ( http://www.puertosdeandalucia.es/en/ )

In La Linea, anchoring is not so easy. The good place behind the big mole is now restricted area. The general reason is that the marina is empty and so the marina should be better visited, anchoring is prohibited. There is still a small area where you can anchor fairly protected, you lie too long, the authorities come and ask the anchors anchor to go to the marina or drive away. There are also reports that the Garida prefers the anchor-floats in bad weather to leave the place! Actually we wanted to stay here for a few days in Gibraltar, but the wind forecast changed our planning. In the morning we have a good southwest and should stay over the day so and only take in the evening. So we only stay one night and drive in the early morning into the Mediterranean Sea. Our destination is Fuengirola. With good wind we reach the small anchorage in front of Fuengirola in the late afternoon. ( http://www.puertodeportivofuengirola.es/ )

The anchorage is recommended only in calm weather but then you are completely quiet here. In the early morning, we want to go at sunrise, there is thick fog over the bay and thus no wind. We still want to go because the flow in the Strait of Gibraltar for the eastern direction now fits well. With a good 2 knots of electricity, we drive to the driveway, and then the power increases a bit. After 4 hours we reach the petrol station in Gibraltar and bunkers first diesel (43 ct / Ltr). Around noon we lie on the Spanish side of the border, La Linea, at anchor with some other yachts. The anchorage is partially closed because there is also a marina and this is occupied by only a few ships. ( http://www.alcaidesamarina.com/en/ )

The plan is now to go to Barbate and then with the right wind and then the current to come to Gibraltar and the road to pass. After we have cleared the anchor and are out of the river, we set the sails and we drive slowly south. The Cap Trafalgar we reach around 1400 clock and we decide to continue to drive a few nautical miles, as for the next day little wind is predicted. At about 1700 we reach a small bay near Ensenada de Bolonia and anchor at the lake. On land, there are some ruins of Roman settlements and a large sand dune just west of our anchorage.

After 3 days in Rota it continues in the morning and today only to Scanti Petri. That's 20 nautical miles and they are fast. We were already in Scanti Petri and know the flow that can stand there in the driveway. Today is better and we lie down for a night further back in the river.

Early in the morning we set the anchor in Marzagon with the destination Rota. With west wind we can sail, but at first very leisurely. In the afternoon a bit more wind comes and we arrive in the bright in the Marina of Rota. This marina is also one of the APPA Marinas, and prices are the same for everyone. The location is determined by the large naval base, which is mostly used by the US Navy. Through the naval port, the marina is more busy than the other marinas. So slowly we plan the trip to the Mediterranean. From Gureiras we drive downstream and stay another night at the jetty of the golf course near the highway bridge on the Portuguese side. Once again we meet friends on the golf course. In the early morning we drop off and come with the current into the Atlantic. With a light breeze we sail to Marzagon and drop anchor for one night. From a friend we have a car and are a bit more agile. One day we drive first direction Alcutim, then to Mertola, where then also a bridge over the Rio Guadiana goes. It is the only bridge across the river to Ayamonte. Continue to the old silver and ore mines in Mina de São Domingos. These mines were abandoned in the 60s only the pits and ruins still exist. Due to rain, some pits are filled with water and at the edges there are signs that forbid every step as dangerous. Due to the different colors of the water, red, green, blue, etc. you do not want to go closer to the pits. At the ruins one can still recognize the use of sulfur and other chemicals. After a detailed tour we drive back to the ship.

After a few days in Foz de Odelete, we drive 4 more miles to Gureiras. Here we also anchor in the river, but there is a bar here and also internet is available here. The river is a lonely area, the road is hardly busy and only a few sailors are on the water. Sometimes a river cruise ship comes by, which is by far the biggest ship we've seen. The Portuguese are all very nice here. There are virtually no tourists, just a few sailing yachts.

In Ayamonte we go for another two days to the marina, bunker water, what to shop and clean ship. When everything is ready, we drive out of the marina and lie north of the village at anchor in the river. We want to go up the river again and have a date with a friend further up the river. With light wind and with the current we drive to Foz de Odelete and anchor at the side in the river.
